Concerned citizens of Milton,
In case you missed it, here’s what your Legislature has been up to under its Progressive leadership:
A $500 million increase to the budget, funded by new taxes & fees
$80 million in new property taxes that will hit renters hard
A $22 million increase in DMV fees, that the agency did not even request!
$71 million for a childcare bill to fund the program through October, followed by
$136 million per year, paid for with a new payroll tax. Vetoed by Governor Scott, but overridden by the legislature
The Democrats representing Milton voted for the new taxes. Two voted yes on S.5, the (Un) Affordable Heat Act, which even Governor Scott vetoed. One claimed her constituents supported S.5 when over 450 of them signed a petition begging her to vote against it. When pressed, she admitted that her constituents didn’t support the bill – she just chose to vote for it anyway!
The Progressive/Democrat supermajority has more plans, too. They’ve proposed yet another payroll tax to fund state-paid family and parental leave in H.66. That bill will come up for consideration in January.
Vermont ranks last or nearly last in almost any measure of business-friendliness. With the imposition of more regulations and now a new payroll tax (or two!), the business climate continues to deteriorate.
Milton is growing fast and has a bright future. But however bright Milton’s light might be, Vermont's fortunes may be different if we as a people cannot stand up for our businesses and our citizens. We can’t allow the agenda of the few to overwhelm the needs of ordinary Vermonters. We need candidates that oppose the endless spending and the tax increases that come with it.
No matter where you stand politically, I hope we can agree that balance is needed to protect the future of Milton and our state. The Governor cannot maintain a veto on these bills which adversely affect affordability and economic prosperity.
There’s much to do in fighting the Progressive agenda and its promised new spending and regulation, and frankly, we need any help we can get.
Contact me with questions or suggestions or just to find out more. I do hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Wendy L. Wilton

PS - S.5 and its companion, The Global Warming Solutions Act, will set intentionally unattainable standards for renewable energy, increasing energy costs on Vermont’s households and businesses – and will expose the state to lawsuits if those unattainable standards are not met. If the Republicans cannot make gains in the House in 2024, S.5 will become law in 2025. The 2024 elections for the State House and the State Senate are critical.
